What in the world is going on with flights? The options don’t seem great, the prices are incredibly high and flights are getting canceled. So, how do we navigate this and still be able to travel without breaking the bank and still keep our sanity? Here are some simple steps to take to ensure better pricing and less hiccups with your flights and while nothing is guaranteed, these tips will get you on your way to traveling.
1. Start looking for deals at least 2 months out.
I use Kayak.com to watch and compare flight pricing with most airlines. Southwest is not a part of the airlines this site looks for but most of the major airlines are. Check daily! Watch for Sales on Tuesday afternoons. Don’t book through Kayak but rather go to the airlines website directly and book there. Booking flights with a 3rd party (Expedia, Booking.com etc) rather than with the airline can be a nightmare if a flight gets rescheduled or canceled.
2. Look for flight pricing on Saturday mornings…Most people don’t think to search on the weekend and flights can be lower
3. Choose a flight that leaves and returns on Wednesdays or Thursdays. They seem to be less expensive.
4. And lastly….Choose a non-stop if at all possible. Connecting flights are having more issues with delays and connections these days and it will save you a headache to flight direct.
