Ever have one of those life moments that changes everything?

In an instant (or what felt like it)—everything changed.

I remember the day like it was yesterday. I called my husband. I called my sister. I asked their thoughts on a big life change I was considering. I was excited and nervous all at once. Could this little dream of mine become my reality?

I wanted to share a more personal subject today to tell you how I ended up here. Let’s go back to the back story to set the stage.

As a young adult, I considered being a travel agent because I love to travel and explore. My life priority was to be a mom though and that is what I did and the thought of travel got left behind and I was ok with that at the time. Fast forward to 2013. At this point in my life I was starting to feel the sting of my kids getting older and realizing that in just a few short years they would be starting their own paths. I could not help but wonder where I would go from there. I had a job as a real estate assistant but knew that I wanted to build a business for me; something that was fulfilling and something I loved to do. I also wanted to begin the before my kids moved out so I would have an established business by that time. I began talking with a friend that had just become a travel agent for Disney Destinations. I talked to her and I asked a million questions…for 3 years I did this. I am a classic over-thinker and I needed to know the good, the bad and the ugly of what I was considering before I made any decisions…but the idea of being a travel professional scared me and intrigued me.

After interrogating her (ok not really but I am sure she felt like I was) for 3 years, I decided to bring the idea up to my people. I was already well traveled with certain destinations so I knew I had that going for me. I knew I was a well organized person and I knew I was a planner at heart. What I needed to find out from those I trusted the most is what they thought. I needed to talk to the 2 people who never sugar coat anything and will tell me when I have crazy ideas; My husband and My sister.

I remember that day clearly. Those 2 phone calls that essentially set me on the path I am now on. My husband shocked me with an immediate “YES! You would be fantastic at that!” So then I called my sister who also confirmed that she thought it was a really great idea and something I would be good at.

With the support of my family, I then made the decision to go for it. I applied at an agency and was accepted! It’s incredible to me how the smallest of life circumstances can change the direction of your career. After over 7 years of doing this job, I truly love my job. It speaks to my heart and soul and truly brings me joy. That’s not to say it’s always easy and it sure does have it’s challenges but I love what I do to help others while supporting my family and my love for travel.
